One of the exotic souvenirs of Qom city is Kharmohre, which known as a thing that removes negative vibes.

Kharmohre is the name of a ceramic or glass handicraft that is called Koji or Mohreh-Mehr. Kharmohre Workshop is a shop selling these blue handicrafts. The general belief about Kharmohre narrates that it can remove negative vibes and protect people ageist the evil eye. Moreover, according to Color Psychology, blue is known as a soothing color. Due to these beliefs about Kharmohre, it is made in blue color.

  • History of Kharmohre
     

Kharmohre is one of the souvenirs of Qom city that is decorative and considered as a suitable gift. The history of fabrication Kharmohre dates back to six thousand years ago, the Achaemenid Empire and the Parthian Empire. It also has a long history in Egypt. According to the evidence, at first, these blue beads produced in Iran then transferred as a gift to Egypt by Persian princes. Moreover, Kharmohre discovered in the copper furnaces around Qom city.

It is interesting to know that Kharmohre has been registered as Persian Turquoise Pearl in World Expo 2000 that held in Hanover, Germany. This art introduced as the Qom technique in the book of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

 

  • Different shapes
     

    The material of Kharmohre consists of Silicon dioxide and natural copper (a natural stick), and its ceramic glaze includes Copper (I) oxide, Sodium carbonate, and Lime. Different kinds of Kharmohre are as follows:
     
    • Religious shapes: It is fabricated like sumbols of God and the name of religious persons.
    • Natural shapes: It is fabricated like moon and star.
    • Animal shapes: It is fabricated like rabbit and fish.
    • Flower shapes: It is fabricated like Tulip and five- petal.
    • Geometric shapes: It is fabricated like square, rhombus, and triangle.
    • Symbols: It is fabricated like horseshoe, anchor, pine and butterfly.
