Cham village

Cham village is one of the villages of Yazd province. The village is the heritage of the ancestor and memorial of Iranians.

This village is located near Taft county in Yazd province. The religion of the villagers is Islam (Shia) and Zoroastrian. This village is known as Zoroastrian village. Every year in the village Sadeh Zoroastrian ceremony is held.

The village has an old cypress tree dating back about 3,000 years old, recently registered with number 40 on the natural heritage list. This tree is about 18 meters height and is located in the yard of the Zoroastrian fire temple. The plantain is very sacred in Zoroastrianism, and usually this tree finds in Zoroastrian cities.

Yazd is considered to be one of the largest Zoroastrians gathering centers in the world. Therefore, the ancient Iranian ceremonies are celebrated every year by Yazd Zoroastrian. The Sadeh ceremony is celebrated every year by the people of Cham. Sadeh celebration is the birth of fire. This celebration held on the 100th day of winter and on the 10th of February. Ancient Persian people believed that the earth's heart would be warmed up by lighting a great fire. So, the winter would be finished and after that life would be returned to the universe again.
