Chama Ice Cave

Iran has full of amazing landscapes that are rarely seen anywhere. One of these areas is the Chama Ice Cave.

The nature of Iran has amazing beauties that some of these landscapes are not found anywhere. Have you ever wished to snow at the peak of the summer heat? This thing is so strange, but you can find it in the Chama Ice Cave in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province. Chama Ice Cave is located about 25 km from Chelgerd village.  

As its name implies, it is a place covered with snow and ice that retains its cool even in the hot summer months. Some parts of snow can reach up to 45 meters in height. This cave is located in the middle of Chama Valley and due to this location and quantity of snow over many years. These snow and ice have not been seasonal and have become permanent. Remember that in the summer due to the heat, the ice thickness decreases, so be careful not to walk on the ice.

It is interesting to know that the Chama Ice Cave is Iran's largest freshwater source. Beneath the ice of this cave is a flowing spring that has cold and clear water. The water of this spring runs into the Kouhrang Dam.

This cave is so suitable for photography because of its incredible scenery. So be sure to get your camera ready for this travel before going to this amazing cave. We suggest you take great shoes and accessories.  If your shoes are inappropriate, you may slip there.

• What is the best time to go?
  The best time to travel to the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is spring and summer. This city has a cold and mountainous climate. But it is best not to go to this cave in August because the weather is so hot and maybe the cave's ice is loose. The coldest month of this province is January.
   

• Getting there?

To reach this unique cave, you must head to the Chaharmahal Bakhtiari Province. If you are traveling from Tehran to this province, you can use the southern terminal. The distance from Tehran to Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province is 630 km. You should then head to Kuhrang County. Then. Continue your way to the Chelgerd. After reaching Chelgerd, there is an adventure road with 25km long that crosses the beautiful village and river. However, some of the distance on this road has not yet been paved.
