Jameh Mosque of Qazvin

Jameh Mosque of Qazvin is an old mosque in Qazvin Province built on the place of a Sasanian fire temple.

Jameh Mosque of Qazvin is also known as Kabir Jameh Mosque or Atiq Jameh Mosque that considered as one of the largest and oldest Jameh Mosque of Iran. This mosque built on the place of a Sasanian fire temple with a Four Iwan plan; this fire temple located on the southern Iwan. It dates back to the Seljuq, Safavid, and Qajar era.

Jameh Mosque of Qazvin with an area of 3500 square meters, considered as a sacred place in the city of Qazvin. It consists of four entrance gates and Sahns; each Sahn includes a big Iwan. You will see one of the marvelous monuments of Islamic Architecture of Iran. Currently, there are only two entrance gates located on the east and northwest side. The main entrance, on the east side, has a magnificent portal which has restored several times. When you enter, you will pass through a Vestibule that decorated with brick. It leads you to the Sahn or courtyard of the mosque, where you can see four Iwans and an elegant turquoise dome. You can see corridor on both sides of Iwans. The southern corridors reach t the oldest part of the mosque where is known as Taq-e Harooni.

The other fabulous element of this mosque is the brick dome lies on the southern side. When you stand below this dome, it seems very high with eye-catching ornamentations. On the southern side, there is a marble Mihrab that decorated with colorful tiles, and a beautiful Minbar which was made of stone. Some stucco ornamentation like inscription locating on the wall. All the Iwans have restored in the Safavid era, but the eastern one has restored in the Qajar era. There is a museum in the mosque includes different objects such as potteries, petroglyph, tiles, stucco, and Orsi that is similar to Sasha windows.

  • What is the best time to go?
     

Qazvin is placed on the southern slopes of the Alborz mountain range. Due to the climate of Qazvin, you will experience mild summer and snowy winter. If you want to see the beautiful nature and enjoy your journey, the best time to visit is from late April until late September. During this period, you will see fabulous plains.

Jameh Mosque of Qazvin located on the Dabbaghan district, west of Sepah Street, Qazvin, Qazvin Province. To reach there, you can use taxi calls; call number133, after declaring your position, a taxi will be provided at your place after a few minutes.
