Qajar Bathhouse

Qajar Bathhouse is one of the oldest historical baths of Qazvin, which dates back to 384 years ago.

Qajar Bathhouse was built under the command of Shah Abbas II, by Amir Gune Khan-e Qajar. This monument dates back to the Safavid era with the title of Hamame Shahi (Bath of Shah). Due to the name of the builder of this bath, its name has changed in the Qajar era.

  • The architecture of Qajar Bathhouse
     

    Qajar Bathhouse, with an area of 1045 square meters, consists of two separate parts for men and women and three main sections of Sarbineh, Miandar, and Garmkhaneh. The main entrance of the bath is opened to the south and leads to Sarbineh with a spiral staircase. Sarbineh was a dressing room and a place to prepare for bathing or exit bathroom with a rectangular plan, including two vaults on the east&west side. The large Sarbineh with a marvelous pond in the middle connects the six Shah Neshin on an octagonal plan to the Garmkhaneh through a narrow corridor.
    It is better to know that Garmkhaneh was used to wash and bath. There was an entrance on the west side for women. Garmkhaneh has a chiasm-shaped plan with some chambers in around that used to wash. The ceiling of Garmkhaneh has covered with some domes that each one has convex lens glasses, to give enough light into the bath. The roof of the bathroom is on the same level as the street. You will see some fabulous ornamentation on the ceiling of such as Muqarnas. In the inner part of Garmkhaneh, the rocks mounted at the foot of the wall are decorated with Qashani.

    This Bathhouse has turned into the museum of anthropology with three main sections about the nation, custom, and the professions.
    • The objects that are exhibited in the Sarbineh hall are about the life of different nations who live in Qazvin such as Tat people, Maraghei people, the Kurds, the Lurs, and Turkish people.

    • The objects that are exhibited in the Miandar hall are about the ritual of Sizdah Be-dar, Panjah Be-dar, and mourning of Muharram.
    • The objects that are exhibited in the Garmkhaneh are about professions such as cupping therapy, forging, and performing Ta'zieh.

  • What is the best time to go?

    To see the Qajar Bathhouse, you should travel to Qazvin. You will see the slope of the Alborz region with a snowy winter and a mild summer during this adventure. Late April until late September is the best period that you can enjoy your journey.

    The address of Qajar Bathhouse is Naderi Crossroad, Ubayd Zakani Street, Dargahi Street, district 1, Qazvin province. To reach there, you can use taxi calls with dialing 133, after declaring your position, a taxi will be provided at your place after a few minutes.
