Ghormeh Sabzi

One of the most famous foods in Iran is the Ghormeh sabzi stew. Few people in Iran do not like this delicious food.

If you want to travel to Iran and looking for authentic and delicious Iranian food, I suggest you try the Ghormeh sabzi stew. This stew is made from aromatic herbs, meat, beans and uses dried lime to taste it. In different parts of Iran, Ghormeh sabzi is cooked with little difference. Some cities cook with meat and others cook with chicken. Some cities also use other beans instead of the kidney bean. Ghormeh sabzi stew served with rice. Usually, eat this food with the Shirazi salad (kind of Iranian salad) or onion.

 

  • History of Ghormeh sabzi
    In ancient times, the tribes cut the meat and cooked a little to keep the meat. Then salting meat and wrapped in clean animal skin so they could carry the meat more easily. Also, the meat will rot later. In order to eat the salted meats, they cooked the meat with aromatic herbs and mixed it with lemon powder or verjuice.   • Ingredients of Ghormeh sabzi
    The first step to making Ghormeh sabzi stew is to prepare the ingredients. The ingredients which you may need are as follows:
    Aromatic herbs such as chives, parsley, fenugreek, and spinach are used in this stew. In addition, you need some kidney bean or cowpea (depending on your taste), fried onion, some meat or chicken (made primarily with meat), a few dried limes, salt and, Turmeric.

 

  • Recipe of Ghormeh sabzi
    This tasty stew is made from various main steps as follows:
    • Step1: The first thing to do is make fried onion. Then put the meats in the fried onion and fry them. Finally add the turmeric.
    • Step2: Add a little water to the meat. If you want to make it with kidney beans, you need to add beans to the meat to cook together.
    • Step3: Fry the herbs a little. After cooking the meat and beans, add the fried herbs.
    • Step4: Finally, add the dried lime and salt to the stew.

Attention: This stew needs about 4 to 5 hours of cooking time.
