The only 5th-floor mosque in the world

Mosques can be considered one of the most significant architectural monuments in Iran. Agha Bozorg mosqueis one of the unique examples of architecture in Iran and is one of the eye-catching mosques of Iran.

Agha Bozorg mosque is one of the most prominent attractions in the city of Kashan that there is in the alley of the same name. This mosque is, in fact, a large mosque and school complex belonging to Mulla Muhammad Mahdi Naraqi and known as Agha Bozorg. The foundation stone of this mosque was laid by a man of the benefactor, Haj Mohammad Taghi Khanban, in the 13th century. The construction of this mosque coincided with the reign of Mohammad Shah Qajar.

Agha Bozorg  mosque is the only five-story Mosque in the Islamic world and one of the most spectacular monuments in terms of architectural and decorative elements. Tiling, brickwork, exquisite gypsum and tile inscriptions, muqarnas, woodwork (carving...), calligraphy and painting, and... from the decoration is used in this building. Despite all these decorations, the appearance of the collection seems simple and unobtrusive, and the excess in its decorations are not visible. Unlike other mosques, the mosque's facade made of bricks only and has made its decorations more noticeable.

Entrance: In front of the mosque and the school of Agha Bozorg, there are two platforms on both sides of the building, which are known as the Pirneshin. These platforms were for resting people who crossed the alley so that they could put it on the platforms for a moment to refresh themselves.

Central courtyard: The central courtyard consists of two main parts:

Sunken courtyard plan: Gardens or Sunken courtyard is an elemental architecture in the traditional     Iranian architecture that built in the middle of the central courtyard, and one floor falls into the ground.

Ground or upper yard: The level of the courtyard aligned with the passageways adjacent of the mosque, and in the four corners, there are steps to reach the lower floor. This courtyard is the roof of the teacher and cellars and is like moonlight.

Shabestans: This mosque has 3 Shabestans. At the mansion, there are two widespread winter and summer Shabestans that located on two floors.

Dome: One of the spectacular views is a magnificent dome mosque that it's all made of bricks. The dome is said to be a place where the ceiling has a dome and is seen mostly in religious places. Since the Seljuq period, this structure has become the most mosque in Iran and has become part of it. This dome is considered to be the largest brick dome.

School: School chambers are made on three sides of the courtyard and are made up of a step above the garden pit. The number of these cellars reaches 12, each with a few shelves, a Cuddy and a heater.

Snowy Yard: Except for the central courtyard, on the end of the building and behind the dome of the other yard is also seen to be used to remove the snow dome. In the middle of this courtyard is the wells to evacuate the snow.

The city of Kashan located in the tropical region, so if you want to visit Kashan and visit the Agha Bozorg mosque, you should go there early in the spring or autumn. To visit Agha Bozorg Mosque, you must go to the morning prayer to sunset prayer.
