Turkmen people

The vast territory of Iran consists of tribes that scattered throughout Iran. In the northeast of Iran, a tribe calls the Turkmen people who have their own unique culture and clothes.

Turkmens are one of the Turkic tribes of Central Asia, mostly settled in Turkmenistan, Northwest of Afghanistan and Northeast Iran. They speak Turkmen in Turkic languages and, most of them are Sunni Islam. They mainly located on the eastern side of the Caspian Sea, including northern and eastern parts of the Golestan province, and in parts of Khorasan. Turkmen were mostly nomadic until the early 20th century, but then gradually settled down in village and city.

Turkmen horses grown in the Turkmen region of Iran are one of the most original breeds of horses in the world. The city of Gonbad-e Kavus and Kalaleh are the most important centers for Turkmen horse breeding.

Most traditional clothes in the world relate to one of the historical periods and describe the characteristics of the period. But by comparing the clothes of the Turkmen with the garments of Iranian historical periods, we find that it cannot be linked to a specific period. Traditional Turkmen clothes were made from materials such as silk, leather, linen, and cotton. Turkmen men's clothing consists of parts such as costume, trousers, hats, and shoes. Turkmen women's clothing is very different and is due to the period times. Turkmen women's clothing is simple to make, but they use a lot of decorations on it.

A traditional yurt is a portable, round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling by nomads, which called Oy. The structure comprises an angled assembly or latticework of pieces of wood or bamboo for walls, a door frame.

Food

Turkmen people often sit on the ground and around tablecloths for eating, which is called Sachagh. Chegdermeh is the most famous local food in Golestan province. Chegdermeh is very delicious food that cooked in a traditional pot called Ghazan. Other famous Turkmen foods are Ekmek, Bullameh (like Halim), Churuk’ha, Bishmeh, Bastermeh, Ghatlama, and Borok.
