A fire temple in Zoroastrianism is the place of worship where Zoroastrians practice their religion. For instance, they read Avesta (the primary collection of religious texts of Zoroastrianism) in front of the fire. Zoroastrian Fire Temple is one of the prominent fire temples in Iran located in Yazd province. Also, this fire temple is known as Yazd Atash Behram which built in the Pahlavi dynasty.

 

  • Rituals of fire temple

A fire temple is a sacred place for Zoroastrians same as a mosque for Muslim. If you want to enter this place, you should be clean. To enter the fire temple Zoroastrian men wear white hats, and women wear white scarves with cool colored dresses. They also take off their shoes.

 

  • Architecture

The fire temple is a building without any ornamentation. One of the essential features of fire temples is the existence of water near them. You will see a pool in front of this fire temple after passing the entrance. The architectural style of the Zoroastrian Fire Temple has been inspired by Achaemenid architecture, especially the Persepolis. You can see some old bath and toilet in the yard which belongs to 80 years ago.

The main building is located on a platform with a height about 21 meters. In front of the fire temple, there are some pillars with stone capitals. Also, some floral rocks mounted at the foot of the wall which was made by the artists of Isfahan. When you enter to the fire temple, you will see some tableaux of Zoroaster and the walls have been decorated by the sentences of Avesta.

 

  • Symbol of Fravashi

Symbol of Fravashi is the marvelous ornamentation of this place which located on the above of the entrance of fire temple. In Zoroastrianism, Fravashi is the concept of a personal spirit of an individual, whether dead, living, and yet-unborn.

  • Statue of Maneckji Limji Hataria

Maneckji Limji Hataria is the first Ambassador from India in Iran in the Qajar dynasty. The Statue of him stands in the Zoroastrian fire temple because he contributed to collection of funds for the construction of this building.

 

  • Sacred Fire

The sacred fire is located in a bronze bowl and protected in a glass area which is away from the sun radiation. Moreover, around this area, some rooms have been embedded to worship.

    It is better to know some information about visiting time and the payment of it.
     
    • Visiting the Zoroastrian fire temple for foreign visitors costs 150,000 IRR.
    • During spring and summer you can visit the Zoroastrian fire temple from 8:00 AM until 11:45 PM. and 4:00 PM. untiil 7:45 PM.
    • During Autumn and Winter you can visit the Zoroastrian fire temple from 8:00 AM until 11:45 PM. and 3:00 PM. untiil 6:45 PM.

 

  • What is the best time to go?

The best time to travel to Yazd in terms of weather is from early March to early April, when the weather is quite mild, with an average temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius. In these months the temperature does not exceed 25 ° C.

 

  • Getting there?

The Zoroastrian fire temple is placed on the Ayatollah Kashani Street. The western entrance gate of this Fire temple belongs to the visitors, and the eastern one belongs to the Zoroastrians.
