Narin castle

Narin castle is an ancient monument in Meybod which is located on a hill with a height of 25 meters. You can see the whole city of Meybod above this ancient castle.

This adobe castle belonged to the Parthian Empire. Narin castle is known as Narenj Castle which considered as the oldest civilization in Yazd province. Archaeologist discovered painted pottery similar to the effects of 3rd millennium BC which belongs to the Elam civilization. The architects of Narin Castle have built some ways under the ground to supply water and food, which has never been conquered by any enemies.
 

• Architecture
   

One of the professional architectural points of this castle is the existence of the ditch which was dug around the castle. They dug a ditch to military and defensive goals. The Narin Castle has an area of three hectares. Moreover, this castle has three stories, four round towers, and some fortifications. the Narin Castle had several chambers which some of them are still standing. A bridge was embedded on the western side of the castle to connect it to the city. Nowadays the southern side of the castle and the bridge have been completely ruined. Two towers were built to protect the entrance gate on the western side of the castle. You can see an old well which has a foursquare geometric shape.

Narin Castle contains two main parts, the upper part, and the lower part. The upper part belonged to the king (shah-Neshin) and the lower part belonged to the people. The lower part linked to the Shah-Neshin with a spiral route.

• What is the best time to go?
   

According to the Yazd climate, the best time to visit the Narin Castle is from early March until early April, when the weather is quite mild.

Narin Castle is placed on the Imam Boulevard, Shahrdari Square in the Meybod, Yazd province. You can reach there via puplic transportation such as bus and taxi. Ride a bus to the Shahrdari Square. If you want to take a taxi call 1828 or 1838 or request a car from Snap.
