Zrebar Lake

Lake Zrebar or Zrebar Lake is located three kilometers west of Marivan city, is one of the unique attractions of Kurdistan Province. This lake is one of the most beautiful natural resources in Kurdistan, at an altitude of 1285 meters above sea level. Zrebar created a spectacular view through the mountains covered with Iranian oak trees, pears, hawthorns, and almonds. The length of this beautiful lake is five kilometers and its width is about 1.6 kilometers, and its depth is 5.5 meters in the deepest part.

The lake water comes from a few natural springs at the bottom of it and the melting of surrounding mountain snow, and no rivers flow. The water of this lake is frozen in the most winters because the water of the lake is fresh and the weather is so cold. The only points of this lake that do not freeze in the winter are the same spontaneous springs on the lake floor. There are the small islands in the middle of water that convert to one of the wonders and endless beauties of Zrebar Lake.

Riding a pedalo through these islands and in the fresh air of spring and summer, it creates a beautiful experience for you. Bird watching and fishing is another popular sport alongside Zreba Lake. Of course, in some seasons of the year, there is no possibility of fishing in Lake Zreba.

Many aquatic animals live in the lake, such as the Medusafish, Capoeta, Common carp, and a kind of giant shrimp. The valued birds of this region are Common Pochard and Mallard, Bitterns, Coot, Sternidae, gray heron, birds of prey like Common kestrel and Circinae.

• What is the best time to go?

The weather of Zreba lake is very temperate and cool in the spring and summer. It is cold and dry in the autumn and winter. The best time to travel to this lake is from April to late July. But if you like to enjoy the winter scenery, it's better to travel there in February and March.

• Getting there?

If you want to move from Marivan to this lake, you should use the Marivan-Saqqez Road. From the city of Marivan to Lake Zreba, it is just 10 minutes distance by car.
