How far is Imam Khomeini Airport to Tehran?

Imam Khomeini international airport, IKIA or IKA, is located in Shahr-e-Rey, about 40 KM from Tehran. This airport has replaced Mehrabad international airport for international flights.

IKA was opened in 2013, and it was a replacement for Mehrabad airport. Companies such as Iran Air, Mahan Air, Aseman Airlines, Qeshm Air, Caspian Airlines, Taban Airlines, and Zagros Airlines operate in this airport.

Also, reputable international airlines offer flights to this airport such as Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Thai Airways, Stern Airlines, Alitalia, and Fly Dubai.

Currently, this airport has one phase, which includes a passenger terminal with a capacity of about 5.6 million passengers, and 120 thousand tons of cargo per year. The second phase of this airport is under construction.

The distance between Tehran‘s city center and IKA is about 40 kilometers. This airport is located in the administrative area of Shahr-e-Rey,  and it’s on the Tehran-Qom highway.

How can I reach Imam Khomeini Airport?

• Subway:

To reach Imam Khomeini International Airport by subway, you must go to Shahr-e Aftab station and catch the train to IKA. This is one of the cheapest routes to reach Imam Khomeini Airport. But you should remember that the IKA train reaches Shahr-e Aftab Station every 40-50 minutes, and it only works during the day. Be sure to check the train’s timetable for the day of your departure.

• Bus:

If you prefer to take the bus, you can board Imam Khomeini Airport buses from several locations:

1. Buses in front of the passenger terminal 4 at Mehrabad airport.
2. Buses in front of Azadi Square subway station
3. Buses from the holy shrine of Imam Khomeini

• Taxi:

You can use online taxis such as Tapsi and Snapp to reach Imam Khomeini Airport. Also, there is a line taxi between Mehrabad airport and Imam airport, and the duration of this trip is usually one hour depending on the traffic.

You also have the option to get to the IKA by a private car, depending on the time of the day and traffic, you’ll be on the road for about an hour. First, you need to reach Tehran-Qom or Tehran-Saveh highways and follow the signs toward IKA.
