Reflection of the sky on the earth

Hoz-e Soltan Salt Lake is located on the 40km north of central Iranian city of Qom, 85km south of Tehran. The Lake, which is also known as Saveh-Qom Lake and Shahi Lake, has an area of 240 square kilometres, and is bound by Alborz Mountain Chain in the north.

Travel to Iran is not limited to the historical places, Iran is wonderland with magnificent natural items in every corner of the country, one of the most beautiful phenomena is salt lakes, there are some small and large salt lakes in Iran. 

Hoz-e Soltan salt lake covers an area of 1,800 Km, while, the most parts of the lake is dry and only and water covers only 1 Km, however, the lake displays different characteristics, sizes, and shapes in the year. Due to the evaporation, the lake is very rich in mineral sedimentation. Adding the information, the measurement changes during different seasons of year. For example, if the rain or snow sheds very well in autumn or winter, the lake expands otherwise it shrinks. the lake is consisted of two holes: Hoz-e Soltan and Hoze-e Mare. In autumn and winter, firstly Hoz-e Mare is fiiled and then Hoz-e Soltan.Apart from snow and rain as the sources for filling the lake, salty rivers are other sources. In 1883, when Tehran to Qom road was being built, Hoz-e Soltan Salt Lake was created.

 

  • The largest natural mirror

This lake is known as the largest natural mirror in Iran becaus of it's polished surface.One interesting experience while visiting the lake is the sound of crunch layers of salt when you walk on the surface of the lake. It is also called as a natural mirror as its shallow water covers a vast plain of salt deposits. Also you can see the reflection of the sky on the earth in this lake.

 

A haven with different taste of nature

 

The region is a haven for some breeds of migratory birds, majority of them come from the north Caspian countries.

 

  • What is the best time to go?

 

Best season for visiting this lake starts from late autumn through early spring.

 

  • Getting there:

 

The lake is visible from Qom-Isfahan highway, and you can have a visit of Hoz-e Soltan Salt Lake when you travel to Kashan or Isfahan. Also Qom is accessible by train, so first you have to reach Qom and then by taking a taxi, you can get to Hoz-e Soltan Salt Lake.
