Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine

The Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine is located in the village of Qaleh Now-e Kharaqan, located 24 km north of Shahroud, in Bastam. The mausoleum of this famous Sufi is situated in a beautiful and eye-catching garden.

Abu al-Hassan al-Kharaqani is one of the mystics who was an important role in maintaining Iranian culture. He is one of the followers of Khosravani's wisdom. He was born in 352 AH in the village of Qaleh Now-e Kharaqan, from the mountains of Bastam. He was the forerunner of Bayazid Bastami. His one of the renowned disciples and students were Khwaja Abdullah Ansari.
It was said that Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi had come to visit him and give him advice.

Abu al-Hassan al-Kharaqani died on the tenth day of Muharram (Ashura) in 425 AH and at the age of 73 in the village of Kharaghan.

The former building of the Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine was not very good and built of bricks. The office of Archeology built a current mausoleum in 1352 SH. In this tomb, there is a library (the center of mystical reference books) and pilgrims' rooms. On the grave of Abu al-Hassan al-Kharaqani, there is a piece of marble and a poem written on it.

On the facade of Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine, wrote:

Feed everyone who enters my house

Feed and don't ask him/her about religion

Since everyone whose life is worth to God for being alive

Of course, at least, deserves Bolhasan, stable

Behind the Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine was a mosque, which, according to some writers, has a conical dome and has beautiful tiles. At present only the altar of the mosque remains, which is unlike other mosques, these areas are westward. This altar has a beautiful and masterful Stuccos.

• What is the best time to go?

Kharaghan village is located in the northeast of Bastam. The village has a cold and mountainous climate. If you are planning to travel to this village, it is better to go there in summer or bring warm clothing with you. Because the Kharaghan weather is cold in other seasons.

The distance between the city of Bastam and the Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine is 21 km, which is about 20 minutes. You can use the Shahrud-Azadshahr road to reach this village. The Abul Hassan Kharaqani´s Shrine is located on the street of Meraj.
