Hasan Abad Qanat

Yazd is considered one of the oldest cities in Iran, which has adobe houses and many beautiful qanats. Hassan Abad Qanat is one of the ancient qanats in Yazd, which registered on the World Heritage Site.

Qanat is one of the Iranian architectures that used to be a water supply to cities or villages in the ancient days. The qanat is a canal that is excavated underground, so that water flows through it to reach the surface. The mother of the wells is usually an underground spring. Qanat is one of the principal sources of water supply.

Maybe it's interesting to you that the city of Mehriz, which is located in Yazd, is composed of many qanats, one of which is Qanat Hassan Abad. Qanat Hasan Abad Yazd is a historical qanat and seven hundred years old in Yazd that belonging to the Middle Islamic period (eighth century). The mother of the well of this qanat is located near the Gharbaliz spring. The fresh water of the Shir Kuh heights of the mountain is the main water of this qanat. The canals of this qanat after a long path and watering several villages, ultimately, reach the Pahlavanpur Garden in Yazd.

The clear water of this qanat is so little salts and is very fresh.  The annual precipitation in Shir Kuh of Yazd has a direct influence on the amount of water of the seven hundred years old Hassan Abad Mehriz Yazd. Yazd is a tropical city that the weather is so hot in the summer. The hottest time in Yazd is from early July to early August. The best time to travel to Yazd is from early March to early April, when the weather is quite temperate, with an average temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius. Of course, if you cannot tolerate the heat of Yazd, you can travel to this city from November to March. In these months, the temperature is not nearly as high as 19 degrees Celsius. Yazd in the days of Nowruz is one of the most crowded cities of Iran and also has a lot of tourists in it.

This qanat is located in one of Yazd's county called Mehriz and near Pahlavanpur Garden. The distance between Yazd and Mehriz is 45 km, which is about 45 minutes by car. You can reach the city via Yazd-Mehriz Highway.
