There is an old village in the southeast of Marivan, Kurdistan province, which is called Uraman Takht. It is one of the most spectacular mountainous districts of Iran that is situated on the bank of the Sirwan River. This village has a history of one thousand years old. Uraman or Hawraman means the place of the sun. Not only does this village have a mountainous climate, but you will also see green forests and some trees such as Oak, Hawthorn, and European pear.
Uraman Takht is constructed with the dry-stone method. Due to the stepped architecture of this village, Uraman is known as Hezar-Masuleh. Archaeologists believe that Uraman was an extensive village that included springs, pleasant weather, and a specific architectural style. Because of these features, the rulers were interested in this village.
Farming, gardening, and animal husbandry are the occupations of people in Uraman Takht. Also, women are wives and help their husbands in the fields and with spinning. Giveh is a kind of hand-woven shoe used in the rural and mountainous districts. Moreover, the equivalent of Douzi in English is sewing. The construction of metal tools, wooden doors, and windows is the other occupation in the village.
Kurdish cloth is the costume of this village. Men wear a long cloth that is called a zown with a headdress a serwin ,and wear giveh as shoes. Also, women wear long dresses with a scarf around a small hat.
Pir Shalyar was a famous man in Uraman Takht who was the son of a Zoroaster Magi. He worked different miracles. Pir Shalyar would get married to the daughter of the king of Bukhara if he could cure his daughter, who was a deaf-mute. He succeeded in curing his daughter and then got married to her. Currently, local people celebrate the wedding anniversary of him as the Pir Shalyar Ceremony on the 4th of February.
Kurdistan province is located on the western side of Iran with a mountainous climate. If you want to visit Uraman Takht, travel from early May until early October.
