Semnan Jameh Mosque is considered to be the oldest post-Islamic architectural work in Semnan city that has changed a lot over time.

The Jameh mosque in architecture is a mosque that was established by the rulers in every city to gather people and prays in special days. That's why they are made on a larger scale. Semnan Jameh Mosque is one of the most valuable monuments of Semnan that has changed a lot throughout history. Semnan Jameh Mosque has been great value in religious, cultural, and social terms. The architectural style of this building is Azeri architecture.

According to historical texts, this monument belongs to the third century AH. The original building of the mosque is one of the works of the Islamic era, which was expanded during the Seljuk, Ilkhanate, and Timurid period. During the caliphate of Ali Ibn Abi Talib, he commanded to build 1001 mosques from Kufa to Bukhara. On the rule of Abdullah Ibn Umar, the rich people of Semnan built the present mosque, but the building was not very glorious.

This monument includes several architectural spaces as follows: There is a courtyard, the large porch, the western Maqsurah, and the three northern, southern, and eastern Shabestans.

  • The porch: The great porch is 21 meters high and is one of the works of Khaje Shamsu al-din Ali Balicha Semnani, the minister of Shah Rukh.
     
  • Maqsurah: In the mosque, a space separated by a curtain or separator, where pray people called Maqsurah.
     
  • Minaret: In the northeast corner of the Abaharb Bakhtiar Shabestan, there is a minaret with a height of 32 meters. This minaret is one of the historical and brick minarets and is known as the minaret of the Jameh mosque. There is a Kufic inscription on this minaret. It is the oldest Iranian minaret to be shaken. This part of this mosque was built during the Seljuk era.
     
  • Shabestans: Shabestan is part of a large mosque with a roof. The Shabestans are covered and have parallel columns that lead to the mosque courtyard on one side. There are four Shabestan in this mosque.
     
    • Winter Shabestan: The oldest Shabestan of this mosque is called the winter Shabestan that is located on the south side. This Shabestan Built entirely in Khorasani style.
    • Abaharb Bakhtiar Shabestan: The other Shabestan is located on the east side called the Abaharab Shabestan. Its construction is attributed to the minister of Amir Timur Gurkani.
    • South Shabestan: This Shabestan is located on the south side of the mosque and top of the winter Shabestan. It has numerous columns. It was repaired during the reign of Fath Ali Shah Qajar.
    • North Shabestan: It has 16 circular and thick columns which the south arch of Shabestan is located. This Shabestan was built by Khajeh Nezam Al-din Semani.
