Is it safe to travel to Iran?

Before traveling, travelers should be aware of the dangers of the destination country. In this article, we want to talk about the threats that threaten a tourist in Iran.

Concerning the evaluation of SOS International institution, it divided the countries according to the security that tourists should have in that country: 'Little', 'Low', 'Medium', 'High' and 'Very High'. This assessment is based on factors such as the amount of racial, sectarian, political, or unusual civil unrest and the likelihood of a riot or terrorist attack. One of the most important factors that encourage tourists to travel to a country is the safety at the destination in terms of life, social and political. But in the Middle East that today known as the world's most disaster-stricken region, SOS International believes Iran is one of the "Low risk" countries for travelers.

  • The most dangerous areas for tourist in Iran are as follows:
    • Sistan-Baluchistan province
    • Border of Iraq
    • Border of Afghanistan
    • Border of Pakistan

Iran

  • There are some dangers in Iran that tourists should be aware of:

PICKPOCKETS RISK:

Keep your bags and belongings in crowded public places like the subway, bazaars, and buses and so on, because thieves are ambushing for you.

MUGGING RISK:
There has been more mugging in Iran recently. It is best not to go out at night alone and do not take street taxis. The best way is to use valid taxis such as Snapp and Tab30.

            SCAMS RISK
There is no such scam in Iran. But I suggest you take care wherever you are.

   Driving risk:
Driving on the roads and streets of Iran requires special skills. Iranian drivers are not so committed to driving laws. So be careful not to get into an accident. Unauthorized overruns, irritability of drivers, excessive horn, and speeding are common in Iran. Iranian roads are categorized from high-risk to low-risk.

   NATURAL DISASTERS RISK:
Iran is one of the earthquake-prone countries. Remember, if you were in a place like a house and an earthquake occurs, go to the door frames. If you are on the streets, avoid buildings and trees. Do not use elevators during earthquakes and fires. In winter, some cities such as Isfahan and Tehran are polluted. Do not leave the hotel if you have heart or respiratory disease.

      TERRORISM RISK:
The terrorist operations have only happened once in recent years, and we had no other case in Iran. Iran is safe in the field of terrorism.

   WOMEN TRAVELERS RISK:
A foreign woman shouldn't travel to Iran alone because she is at high risk. But, if you want to travel alone, here are some advice:

  • Choose the appropriate clothes for Iranian culture and laws.
    • Do not stay in a place with a strange man.
    • Sit in the front seat in a street taxi.
    • Find out all the information about your destinations on the internet before you leave the hotel.
    • Ask the police if you don't know the address.
    • Don't be alone in the street at night.
    • Use valid taxis such as snapp, tap30, and so on.
    • Avoid staying in very secluded places.
