Adorian fire temple

Adorian is the only fire temple in Tehran which belongs to the Zoroastrian.

A fire temple in Zoroastrianism is the place of worship where Zoroastrians practice their religion. For instance, they read Avesta (the primary collection of religious texts of Zoroastrianism) in front of the fire. Adorian is a fire temple for Zoroastrian dating back to the Qajar era. You will see the Ethnological Museum of Zoroastrian at this fire temple. This fire temple consists of a mansion, six columns with cattle head capital, a courtyard, and a pond same as Zoroastrian fire temple. Inside the mansion, there is a fire which has been burning since 1917.
 

• Rituals of fire temple

A fire temple is a sacred place for Zoroastrians same as a mosque for Muslim. If you want to enter this place, you should be clean. To enter the fire temple Zoroastrian men wear white hats, and women wear white scarves with cool colored dresses. They also take off their shoes.

•  Courtyard

On the right side of the mansion, there is a staircase that reaches the Adorian’s caretaker unit which located on the second floor. The office of the fire temple is located on the left side, gives you information to visit. You will see an oval pond in front of the mansion after passing the entrance gate.

• Central mansion

Adorian Fire Temple has an area of 1300 square meters, and the central mansion has an area of 206 square meters. The façade of this mansion was made of marble. There are 16 stone balls all around the mansion which implying to the 16 sacred fire. Also, there are six columns with cattle head capital in front of the mansion on the eastern Iwan. There is a stone inscription above the entrance gate of the mansion which includes a symbol of Fravashi in the center. In Zoroastrianism, Fravashi is the concept of a personal spirit of an individual, whether dead, living, and yet-unborn. This mansion, which is called a fire temple includes different sections. In the middle of the fire temple, there is a chamber with an area of 22 square meters that is called the place of the fire. This area has surrounded by the worship hall from the east, north, and south. You will see eye-catching stucco in this hall, which decorated with golden color.

You can visit the Adorian Fire Temple during all season. Moreover, this museum located in 30th Tir Street. You can try different street foods at this old place and enjoy the moments.

• Getting there?

You can reach the Adorian Fire Temple via private car and public transportation such as metro and bus. It is better to use public transportation because you couldn’t find a parking space near the Adorian Fire Temple.

Metro: Get off at Saadi station, reach there by Jomjouri Avenue. It is a 13-minute walk from the station to the fire temple.

Bus: You can ride a bus that pass from Jomhouri Avenue. Get off at intersection of Hafez and Jomhouri then you can reach 30th Tir Street by a short walk.
