Gandoman Pond

Gandoman pond is one of the most beautiful ponds in Iran. Gandoman pond is also the place where birds are migrating.

Gandoman Pond is one of the most beautiful ponds in Iran that is located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. This pond is located near the Gandoman city from the county of Boroujen. This pond is located near the Gandoman city from the county of Boroujen. Gandoman pond is known as one of the ponds of the Aq Bollaq drainage basin. This pond is located not far from the Choghakhor lagoon. Part of the water output from the Choghakhor lagoon flows into this pond.

The area of this pond is 980 hectares. There are eight villages on the margin of the Gandoman pond. The height of the wetland is 2219 meters from the sea level. Water supply sources in addition to rain and snow are springs (wetland fountains such as small flowers, large flowers, Moradan and Nasirabad) and the Aq Bollaq river. It is interesting to know that the Gandoman pond was a hunting ground for Bahram and his surroundings in the past. This pond got its name from a historic city located on its northeastern side. This region was yaylak area for the royal family in the past centuries. You should also know that Gandoman pond is in the list of the top 10 bird watching in Iran.  

On the edge of the Gandoman pond, you can see the beautiful meadow. In this area, the shepherds bring their livestock for grazing. Unfortunately, this livestock is one of the destructive factors of the Gandoman pond.

Beast species that live along the pond are mostly birds. Some of these birds migrate to the wetland in winter, and others live in the pond throughout the year. The migratory birds in the wetland are ducks, cormorant, sandgrouse, plover, herons and ruddy shelduck, and stork, rail, Bird of prey, etc. Indigenous birds live in the wetland are storks, coot, circinae, some bird of prey, and so on. There are also a variety of snakes, frogs, turtles, and mammals such as boar, jackal, wolf, bat, fox, rabbit live in this area. Iridescent toothcarp, anchovy, capoeta are other species of this pond. Varieties of plants include willow, oncoba Spinosa, sedges, common reed, cattail, irises, flowering rush, Potamogeton crispus, cyperus alternifolius, duckweeds and so on.

If you want to go to this beautiful pond, spring and summer are the best time to visit the Gandoman pond, because of the weather often cold and hard in winter.

Gandoman pond is located next to the village of Gandoman. Gandoman Village is just 20 minutes distance by car.
