Hotu and Kamarband caves are two caves that are about 100 meters apart. The caves are located in the village of Trojan, five kilometers southwest of Behshahr city.
Hotu is the name of a cave near Behshahr, located in the village of Shahid Abad, dating back to ancient times, and significant antiquities about early human life were found there. This cave is located on the slopes of Alborz Mountain that is facing the sea.
In these caves, skeletons were discovered that are estimated to have been around 70,000 years ago. These skeletons belonged to one man and two women. This discovery shows that this place dates back to 75,000 BC. These skeletons belong to the Neanderthal era. In addition to these skeletons, other things such as animal bones, pottery fragments, and flint have also been discovered. What has been discovered at this location includes signs of the Ice Age, Iron Age, Neolithic, and Early Paleolithic. The discovery was led in the Year 1951 by Professor, Carleton S. Coon, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
