Eshgh Abaad wetland is a hospitable wetland, with many birds of every year visiting various wetlands.
Eshgh Abaad wetland is located 25 km from the city center of Ray in Ashgabat. This wetland is one of the best places in the city of Ray for bird watching. The wetland is the square shape. Its length is about 700 meters.
It is interesting to know that the Eshgh Abaad Wetland is an artificial and seasonal wetland built in 1974 for use on surface waters. Formerly the name was Bahram Gur wetland but now because of its vicinity to the village of Eshgh Abaad, this wetland has taken the same name. Currently, nearly 150 species of birds have been registered in this wetland. Birds fly over the wetland and occasionally dive in the water and catch fish. Fish also raise in this lagoon.
You can see many species of birds in Eshgh Abaad wetland that can name as several species: Hooded crow, Magpie, Rook, House sparrow, White wagtail, Laughing dove, Rock dove, Western marsh harrier, Black kite, Sandpiper, Grey heron, Great egret, Northern lapwing, Plover, Eurasian teal, Egrets and so on.
Plants surrounding the wetland include: Zygophyllum, Peganum harmala, Sedges, Aeluropus littoralis, Aeluropus lagopoides, Alhagi, Echinops, Mugworts, Grain and etc.
The first sign that emerges after reaching the wetland is a sign with the title: "The entry of miscellaneous people is forbidden". So, you need to coordinate with the lagoon responsible before you go there. You should also know that this area protected and Bird hunts and fishing prohibited in this lagoon.
In the cold season, migratory birds migrate to this lagoon. So, the best months to see the migratory birds are from late December to mid-March.
