Yazd, an adobe city in the central Iran, is the capital of Yazd Province. Yazd with a long history, considered as an ancient city which dates back to the Sasanian Empire. Due to the valuable architecture and unchanged historic district of Yazd, it has recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO from 2017. Currently, about 529,673 families live in this village.

  • Architectural style of Yazd

    Yazd city has a unique desert architectural style consists of wind catchers, minarets, and domes, which considered as the prominent feature of this historical city. One of the technical methods of the architectural style of Yazd is using wind catchers to hold the wind blowing and make the house cool. You will see one of the best world’s architectures in the arid climate, which had been created based on climatic-cultural needs. Qanat of Zarach, which is one of the 11 Persian Qanats, had registered in the UNESCO World Heritage, located in the Yazd. This ancient qanat dates back to 3000 years ago and has a total length of 100 kilometers. The shafts of this qanat are located under some historical monuments such as the Jameh Mosque of Yazd to have easy access to water.
    There are a lot of Hussainiya that indicate religious people of Yazd. You can see a high symbolic wooden element beside the Amir Chakhmaq Tekyey, which is used in the Mourning of Muharram. It dates back to the Safavi era, made of carved wood with Girih tiles and big beams and also, similar to Cedar that is a symbol of liberality.

  • Handicraft and Souvenir of Yazd

Termeh, Shamd, Gold, and Kilim are the famous handicrafts of Yazd. You can also eat different kinds of Persian pastries such as Baklava, Cake-e Yazdi, Haji Badam, Rice bread, Rosette, Qottab, Cotton candy, and Sohan- Ardi. Tahini or Arde is a condiment made from toasted ground hulled sesame has a long history in Yazd.
