Salouk National Park

Salouk National Park, with an area of 8231 hectares, consists of fabulous nature, various fauna and plant species, and specific geomorphology. The mountainous topography has made Salouk National Park one of the most varied wildlife habitats.

  • Geographical location:

    Salouk National Park is a protected area located in the northwest of Esfarāyen in North Khorasan Province, including a great variety of plant and animal species. This protected area is divided into two mountainous and lowland landscapes. The height difference between the highest and lowest point of this area is about 1510 meters, which created a varied ecosystem in Salouk National Park.

    More than 100 animal species have been identified in Salouk National Park. Follow along to find out about the fauna and flora of this Protected Area.
     
    • Mammals of Salouk National Park

      A large number of Urial, gazelle, Wild goat, leopard, wildcat, and marten are the rare animal species of this area. This area is the main habitat of gazelle in the North Khorasan Province. Wild boars in the northern mountains use roots and shrubs of the area. These boars do not have a fixed location and sometimes change their habitat to long distances. Wolves, jackals, and foxes can be found throughout Salouk, while hyenas are found only in the southern hills of this area. Brandt's hedgehog, Desert hedgehog, squirrel, Grey dwarf hamster, Northern three-toed jerboa, porcupine, rabbit, and weasels are the other mammals of Salouk National Park.

    Shikra, Long-legged buzzard, Black-bellied sandgrouse, Pin-tailed sandgrouse, Rock dove, Cream-colored courser, European Nightjar, Common swift, European bee-eater, Rollers, Eurasian hoopoe, Swallow, Pale crag martin, and Desert lark are some of the prominent birds of Salouk National Park.

    The Salouk National Park includes various vegetation coverage. The predominant plant species of Salouk National Park are Mugworts, Acantholimon, and Milkvetch. Moreover, Juniper, Barberry, Dog-rose, and Hawthorn are the forest shrubs of this protected area.

    You will travel to Esfarāyen and visit Salouk National Park from late April until early August. 

 

 
  • Getting there?

    Salouk National Park is located northwest of Esfarāyen. You have to get Esfarāyen in North Khorasan Province, then go to the National park with a local leader and start your journey.
