A quick, inexpensive, and practical way to get around Tehran's busy city is via the metro. With the help of this guide, you will have all the knowledge necessary to easily navigate the extensive system and reach wherever you're going.
System Overview: Lines, Length, and Timings
- Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8: These lines form the backbone of the network, efficiently connecting all-over Tehran together.
- Line 6 (under construction): This line will further expand the network upon completion.
- Tehran-Karaj-Golshahr Express Line: This commuter line connects Tehran to Karaj, which is the biggest city in proximity to tehran.
The metro operates daily from 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM, making it a reliable option for early commutes or late-night adventures (within operational hours).
Tips for a better experience in Tehran Subway:
- Purchasing Tickets: Purchase tickets from booths at any station. Opt for single-journey tickets, reloadable cards ("Tehran Metro Card"), or consider the "Shahrzad" app (requires a local bank card and Farsi language skills).
- Navigating Stations: Stations are well-signed with maps and line colors displayed prominently. Announcements are typically in Farsi, but some stations might have English translations. Consider downloading a Farsi translation app for added convenience.
- Women's Compartments: The first and last carriages are designated for women. Women can also use the mixed carriages if preferred.
- Rush Hour Crowds: Be prepared for crowded trains during peak hours (7 AM to 9 AM and after 4 PM).
Option 1: Meydan-e Enghelab Station (Line 4)
- Take Line 4 and get off at Meydan-e Enghelab Station (Enghelab-e Eslami).
- Exit the station and head towards Enghlab Street.
- Walk straight on Enghlab Street until you reach 12th of Farvardin Street.
- At this point, you can either take a taxi or walk a short distance until you reach Jomhouri Avenue. Hipersia is likely located near Mina Alley, the second alley on your left on 12th of Farvardin Street, just before Jomhouri Avenue.
Option 2: Meydan-e Horr Station (Line 2)
- Take Line 2 and get off at Meydan-e Horr Station.
- Walk through Pastor Street until you reach Pastor Square.
- Locate South Kargar Street on your left. You can either walk or take a taxi from here.
- Continue straight until you reach Jomhouri Avenue. Turn right and proceed until you reach 12th of Farvardin Street, the second street on your left.
- Hipersia is likely located near Mina Alley, the second alley on your left on 12th of Farvardin Street, just before Jomhouri Avenue.
