How to get to HiPersia via subway

Your Guide to Navigating the City by Subway.

A quick, inexpensive, and practical way to get around Tehran's busy city is via the metro. With the help of this guide, you will have all the knowledge necessary to easily navigate the extensive system and reach wherever you're going.

System Overview: Lines, Length, and Timings

  • Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8: These lines form the backbone of the network, efficiently connecting all-over Tehran together.
  • Line 6 (under construction): This line will further expand the network upon completion.
  • Tehran-Karaj-Golshahr Express Line: This commuter line connects Tehran to Karaj, which is the biggest city in proximity to tehran.

The metro operates daily from 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM, making it a reliable option for early commutes or late-night adventures (within operational hours).

Tips for a better experience in Tehran Subway:

  • Purchasing Tickets: Purchase tickets from booths at any station. Opt for single-journey tickets, reloadable cards ("Tehran Metro Card"), or consider the "Shahrzad" app (requires a local bank card and Farsi language skills).
  • Navigating Stations: Stations are well-signed with maps and line colors displayed prominently. Announcements are typically in Farsi, but some stations might have English translations. Consider downloading a Farsi translation app for added convenience.
  • Women's Compartments: The first and last carriages are designated for women. Women can also use the mixed carriages if preferred.
  • Rush Hour Crowds: Be prepared for crowded trains during peak hours (7 AM to 9 AM and after 4 PM).
