Persepolis

Persepolis is one of the ancient Persian sites of Iran, Persepolis was first built by Darius the first which for many years has been the capital of the kingdom's Iran during the Achaemenid Empire, this ancient capital has been an icon of Persian culture for years to come.

During the reign of the Achaemenid dynasty, there was a magnificent city called Persepolis that originally called Parsa or Takht-e Jamshid. The archaeologists discovered this fact after they were able to read the cuneiform. In ancient Greece, they used to call Parsa "Persepolis" which means the old city of Persian.

In this ancient city, there is a collection of the Palace of Persepolis built during the reign of Darius the Great, Xerxes and Ardashir I. This magnificent city was established for about 200 years. The great Achaemenid era was ended by Alexander the Great. Alexander attacked Persepolis and began to slaughter and sell Persian children and women also then he set fire to the beautiful and glorious Persepolis. Many documents and palaces destroyed due to the enormous fires in Persepolis. After the rule of the Achaemenid, because people were not able to read the cuneiform, this great era was ignored. The three cities of Babol, Susa, and Hamadan were considered as the administrative, political and economic capital of the Achaemenid kings. Meanwhile, Pasargadae and Parsa were among the other cities that were considered to be the ritual capital for them. Parsa was used for important occasions.

In 518 BC, Persepolis became the capital of the new Achaemenid Empire. The founder of Persepolis was the great Darius after that his son "Xerxes" expanded the persepolis and his grandson "Ardashir I" did the same. This monument consists of several palaces, which are the establishment of the Achaemenid Empire.

• Tachar Palace

One of the first palaces built on the orders of Darius I is the Tackar Palace that used in the Winter. This palace is one of the healthiest palaces in the Persepolis complex. The stone used to make this beautiful mansion, because of polishing, worked like a bright mirror and reflected the images. The glory of this palace, among other palaces in the Persepolis complex, is exemplary. Pictures carved on the portals of the central hall, which include the face of Darius and his crew, are another interesting point in the design of the Tackar Palace. One of Tarchar's excellent points is the robust and unique skeleton that has made it one of the healthiest palaces on the Persepolis.

• Gate of All Nations‌

The palace is known as the Gate of Nations because the entrance of various delegates into the Persepolis complex was considered to have entered into other parts of Persepolis and its palaces. For this reason, the builders of the Persepolis complex built the gates of nations glorious and magnificent until showed the power and the glory of the Achaemenid rule.

• Apadana Palace

Apadana Palace is one of the most important palaces. The construction of the Apadana Palace, which can be described as the heart of Persepolis, began at the time of the Shah's treasury. The Apadana Palace is the first Iranian monument of stone built.

• Shura Palace

The Three Gate Palace, also known as the Shura Hall, is located in the center of Persepolis. The mansion has three gates, which connect them to other palaces.

• What is the best time to go?

Shiraz is famous for its spring, so the best time to travel to Shiraz is spring. Keep in mind that this season is the high-season of Shiraz.

Persepolis located 10 km north of Marvdasht and 57 km from Shiraz. You can reach the Persepolis from the highway Shiraz-Marvdasht. You will be on the way for about an hour.
