Shandiz county is located in Razavi Khorasan Province, near the city of Mashhad. The old names of this city are the Dezh Shah and Diz Shah. Shandiz has a temperate climate. In this area, there are swollen rivers. These rivers flow from the northern slopes of the Mount Binalud. Among the swollen rivers that flow in this area are Mej, Mayan, Zoshk, Mugan, Dehbar, Jaghargh and Kang.

Shandiz is neighbor from the east with Torghabeh, north to the Miyan Velayat, from the south to the beautiful city of Neyshabur and from the west with Golmakan and Chenaran.

The temperate climate of this region has made the area great plants, lush nature with tall and bushy trees. This city has become a Yaylak region (It is said to be cold regions that nomads migrate summer and spring.) because there are always swollen rivers.

According to the documents and writings, this city before the arrival of the Islamic religion is a residential area and located on the way to Mashhad so, this area has always been a great splendor.

One of the most important historical events of Shandiz is the destruction of the Shahan Dezsh castle by Hesam al-Saltaneh (the ruler of Khorasan‌) during the Qajar era.

The famous symbol of Shandiz city is the 2,700-year-old plane tree. This tree periodically symbolized by the municipality of Shandiz.

The most famous fruit of Shandiz is delicious and red cherries. Shandiz souvenirs are handicrafts and especially fur clothes. The famous Shandiz food is Shashlik kebab Shandiz. Shashlik is one of the tastiest kebabs. This feed is made from six pieces of mutton cooked with a unique cooking technique and has a worldwide reputation.

The weather of Shandiz city is cold in the winter and, it is mild and pleasant in summer. The best time to travel to this beautiful city is May till July.

• Getting there?

Shandiz is located in 12 km northwest of Mashhad. If you move from Mashhad to Shandiz, the best way is the Vakil Abad Highway. You can go from the Kalantari highway to Vakil Abad highway and after a short distance goes to Shandiz Road. From Mashhad to Shandiz, it takes about an hour by car.
