Qom carpet

The weaving carpet industry is one of the most important industries in Qom, which dates back to the twentieth century and began to produce the luxurious silk and wool handmade carpets.

Although the carpet weaving industry has traditionally been commonplace among nomads and villagers in Qom. But the manufacturing of carpets in this city began in the 20th century, about 80 years ago. That is, when merchants brought carpet frames to the city and began to work in a small space, and it was still twenty years since the carpet weaving in it was expanded with the breadth of business in an advanced and significant way. The industry has quickly become common in the city of Qom and gradually spread to surrounding villages.

At first, the Qom carpets were made with thick wool and woven in 40 knots per square inch. In the following years, Qalibaf (carpet weaver) artists in Qom developed the evolution of carpet weaving, and with specific skill and ability to weave the entire carpet out of silk with a very high number of the knot. This exquisite carpets that were woven with these fine silk yarns, called silk flower. The determining factor for identifying the Qom carpets is the technique of weaving. Common patterns:
 

Qum carpet patterns, like the colors used, are very diverse. The patterns of old Qom carpets were adapted from famous figures of Kashan and Isfahan carpets, but quickly evolved with the creativity of Qom designers and a new style emerged in Iran's weaving industry. This style has become famous as the Qom carpet style with features such as elaborate design and harmony of patterns and unique colors. The field design, medallions, and borders, as well as tree of life patterns like Isfahan rugs, are the most patterns that use in Qom carpets. The patterns of the tree of life, animal, plant, and the Shah Abbasi in terms of their design and coloring, it has extraordinary excellence and vivid colors. Although the hunting scene patterns originated from Isfahan, it is possible to observe many examples of this pattern in silk carpets of Qom. The Qom weavers prefer to change the most delightful designs of other Iranian carpet weaving centers, which have become accepted throughout the time.

The number of colors used in Qom carpet was initially limited to 4 to 6 colors, but along with the development of the design of the carpet, the number of colors has also increased in Qom carpet. In recent years, the main colors of Qom carpet have been made up of 16 colors as follows: bright and dark lacquer, dark blue, cream, beige, brown and light brown, light and dark blue, black, sandy, golden and copper.
