Sanandaj Museum is known as Salar Saeid Mansion; you will see some ancient objects that discovered from all over Iran at this historical place.

Sanandaj Museum is one of the historical places in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province ehich dates back to the Qajar era. It is locating in a historical district of Sanandaj near to the other historical monuments.

  • Architecture

This historical mansion was constructed at the late reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. It has an architectural style of the Qajar era. You will see a Hows (pond) at the underground with a marvelous dome above it. This mansion had made of wood, brick, and stone with a gable roof. The prominent part of this mansion is Orsi windows with seven doors. Orsie is one of the Islamic architectural effects, a lattice window like Sash window which used in red, green, and white color in Sanandaj Museum.

 

  • Museum

    The objects date back from Prehistory until the Qajar era have been exhibited in Sanandaj Museum. Let’s talk about different periods as follow:
     
    • Prehistory Zone

      This zone includes the entrance corridor and a chamber that placed next to the main hall of the museum. A collection of pottery, which is an artifact of the Kurdistan regions, especially Baneh, has been exhibited in this part. Also, some of them are the artefacts of Kangavar. Also, the oil lamp of Baneh are the prominent objects of this part.

       
    • Historic Zone

      These objects are the most significant objects of Sanandaj Museum. A lot of objects that have been exhibited in this zone are artefacts of Ziwiyeh, one of the most prominent ancient hills of Iran. If you want to visit this part of the Sanandaj Museum, you should go to the main hall, a chamber next to it, and the exit corridor that dedicated to this zone. The principal objects of Ziwiyeh are as follows:
       
      • Golden objects that consist of some women's jewelry.

      •  Pottery objects that consist of different dishes in gray, red, and beige colors.

      • Bronze objects that consist of dishes, ax, pins, sewing needles, and rings.

      • Bone objects that consist of pieces with scenes of hunting, fighting, mythical creatures, geometric patterns, and rosette. 

      •  Stone objects that consist of rings and beads.

      •  Metal objects that consist of bayonet, dagger, small statues, patera, and scent bottle.

      •  Pottery jars are the other objects of this museum that have a large size is known as burial jars.

      •  Also, this part includes some objects that discovered from the excavation of Karaftu caves.

Islamic period Zone


The object of this zone divided into two metal and pottery parts. In the pottery hall, you will see marvelous potteries of the Islamic periods such as different kind of dishes, statues, and rhyton, which was made skillfully. The most objects of this zone dedicate to Shahr-e-Rey, Kashan, and Neyshabur. In the metal hall, you will see different metal dishes, Badiyeh (a copper dish), Sangabeh, pots, and oil lamp.
 

Temporary exhibition Zone


This part is the underground of the mansion, which includes bronze status, some glass dishes, and some inscriptions and gravestones.

You will travel to the west side of Iran and see the fabulous nature of Kurdistan province. Sanandaj has a mountainous climate. The best time to visit the Sanandaj Museum is from early May until early October. During this period, you will enjoy the mild weather and have a memorable journey.

 

 
  • Getting there?

Sanandaj Museum is located on Habibi alley, Emam Street, Sanandaj, Kurdistan province. You can ride a bus and get off at the Naser Khosro station. It is a two-minute walk from the bus station to the museum. Also, you can reach there via other public transportation such as a taxi.
