Tepe Hissar is one of the most valuable archaeological hills of Iran's plateau, which located near Damghan, Semnan province. 

Tepe Hissar is an archaeological hill in Damghan which dates back to the seven thousand years BC. Archaeological investigations reveal that people were inhabited in Tepe Hissar up to 1700 BC, but after that, no one has been lived there. Doctor Schmidt, a German archaeologist, gained valuable discoveries on Tepe Hissar. He discovered a castle the evidence showed that the site burnt by people. One of the features of people in this region is the way they buried the dead. They buried the dead toward sunset. The sun was valuable for people in Tepe Hissar. Also, they put precious objects in the grave that were equal for men and women.

  • Period of Tepe Hissar

    Three distinct classes of prehistory were identified on the Tepe Hissar that each of them is classified into smaller divisions. The different classes of Tepe Hissar are as follows:
     
    • Hissar I


      This period dates back to 4200 BC to 3500 BC and represents the first inhabitants of the region. The pottery of Tepe Hissar has a beige color that is derived from Cheshmeh-Ali. The Hissar civilization has taken from this period, and it reflects the beige pottery civilization in this area. Also, the houses of this class have no specific plan.

    This class was habitable for a short period. The gray pottery with tall bases, smooth edge, and flat bottom have been discovered at this class. While the discoveries of these two periods are similar, but they are quite different. The house of this period were built with a quadrilateral plan. Most of them have space as a kitchen in the center and some chambers arranged in around.
     
  • Hissar III


    This period dates back to the Akkadian Empire in Mesopotamia. The burned discoveries date back to this period.

  • What is the best time to go?

Semnan province is known as the land of desert, mountain, and forest. Due to the climate of Semnan province, the best time to visit Tepe Hissar is Fall and Spring. During this period the weather is mild and you will enjoy your journey.

 

  • Getting there?

Tepe Hissar is located two kilometers from Damghan, Semnan province. It is placed on the southeastern of Damghan. You can reach there trought a road from Rah-Ahan Street in Damghan to Hyderabad as following map:
