Lar National Park

Lar Protected Area, or Lar National Park, is located about 70 kilometers east of Tehran. Lar plain with its surrounding mountains and its rivers has created a pleasant landscape.

The Lar National Park is a pristine area that consists of a valley on the southwestern to the northeast of Mount Damavand. This area is part of the province of Mazandaran and was the camp of the kings in the warm season due to the weather. Lar National Park is an outstanding example of mountain habitats that became a National Park in 1354. It has been introduced as a protected area since 1361. Since 1991 some areas of this park have been banned from hunting and shooting.

 

  • Animals
    Lar plain due to the pleasant climate and numerous rivers and abundant vegetation has abundant animal species and almost all of the central Alborz animals and plants in this park. There are different species in terms of wildlife due to its special mountainous. The birds in this area are one hundred species and include Partridge, Eagle, Common buzzard, Crane, Phoenicopterus, Kestrel, Caspian snowcock, and so on. The Golden Eagle is a unique species living in this area of Iran and native to the region. The mammals in this area include Wild goat, goats, rams, rabbits, Marten, Alborz Sheep, brown bear, leopard, wolf, fox, Wild boar, Wildcat, and so on. Eurasian Vipers, Damavandi Vipers, Alborz Vipers, snake, lizard, Monitor lizard, turtle, and frog are among the amphibians and reptiles of this region.

  • Red spotted trout
    Red-spotted trout is one of the rarest species of trout that are found in this park. It lives in freshwater and rivers and lakes. In the fall season, they swim reverse in the flowing water for spawning. Red-spotted trout is one of the country's protected species and is on the verge of extinction on the Red List of the World Conservation Union IUCN. The Lar National Park is one of the few habitats and indeed the most important habitat of this valuable species in Iran.

  • Plants
    The attraction of this park is its varied and fascinating vegetation. Many plants in this plain are edible and medicinal. Milkvetch and great mullein and Yellow salsify, Onion, Wild Mushroom, Chicory, Heracleum persicum, Liquorice, Stachys lavandulifolia, Plantago, and Ramsons are examples of Lar park plants. The violet and purple bearded iris, yellow flower, and Poppy make Lar park colorful in spring. Some people beekeeping in this park because there are so many flowers in the park. This occupation starts in early June and lasts until late September.

    Div Asiab River, Lar River, Sefidab River, Alarm River, Vara Rud River, Chehel Barreh, and Imam Pohanak River run into the Lar Dam and supply part of Tehran water.

    In the Yaylak season, the nomadic nomads come to the Lar National Park area to spend this season. The beautiful effects of nomadic life in this season add to Lar's beauties and make it more spectacular.

If you like fishing, you can fish in this park. Also, if you like to have exciting climbing, go to the mountains around the park and create a unique experience for yourself.   • What is the best time to go?
    The Lar National Park has its beauty in every season, but more tourists come to this park late spring due to colorful flowers grow in late spring. If you choose early spring to travel to this beautiful plain, remember that the park guard may not let you enter the park with your car because it is the time of animal birth. You will not find any shade in this park due to there aren't trees, so take a canopy with you if you go to Lar National Park in the morning.

 

 
  • Getting there?
    If you want to reach this park easily, follow the address as follows:
    Enter the Haraz Road at the end of the Babaii Highway and cross the Rudehen and Bumehen and then the Imamzadeh Hashem, you'll see a spectacular view of Mount Damavand. Stop by and take a photo of this white giant. You will reach Polour in less than 10 minutes. There is no signpost and it is best to look for the golden statue of a climber on your left and enter the side road from there. However, you should continue on the paved and winding road and avoid the left or right road, in less than a quarter you will reach the Lar park ranger.
