Shushtar situated in the southwest of Iran and located on the slopes of the Zagros mountains. One of the oldest cities in Iran is Shushtar. Shushtar has one of the unique monuments in the world. This city is very famous for its water structures.

Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System is a collection of bridges, watermills, waterfalls, canals, and tunnels. This monument is a vast guide to water. Different parts of this collection work in connection with each other.

 

Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System

 

The Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System built on a river named Gor Gor. The Gor Gor river is entirely artificial and handmade, and its construction dates to the era of Ardashir I, the Sassanid king. The work's basis of this collection is the Gorge dam blocks the river and raise the surface of the water to dug three tunnels in the slate. Triple tunnels direct the water into a collection. These tunnels divided into several channels. Archaeologists have recognized that the collection made during the Achaemenid and Sassanian period.

The stone staircase located in the south area's waterfalls has more than 200 steps and connects the cascades to the residential areas. These rooms date back more than 4,000 years.

The climate of the Shushtar city is the Mediterranean. So, the most pleasant weather at the end of winter and early spring.

Ahvaz and Dezful are the closest cities to Shushtar. It should be noted that the city of Shushtar does not have an airport. If you want to travel by plane, the best options are Dezful and Ahvaz airports. This monument located on Shariati Street, near the 15th Khordad Square.
