Ovan Lake is one of the natural attractions of Qazvin that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists, due to its magnificent and spectacular views. This picturesque lake is located in Qazvin Province, surrounded by four villages: Evan, Vein, Zavardasht, and Zarabad. The Ovan lake area is over 70,000 square meters, and the depth of this lake at the deepest point is approximately six meters. An interesting point about Ovan Lake is that it doesn't receive any water from the surrounding rivers, and the only water source is atmospheric precipitation and springs on the lake floor.

The Ovan Lake freezes in winter and autumn, and it is considered a suitable haven for migratory birds such as swans, geese, and ducks.
Due to the elevation of 1815 meters and the cold weather of this area in the winter, the lake surface is frozen and allowing skiers to go ice skating. On the other hand, the weather is very glorious for fishing, swimming, and boating in the summertime.
In the region of Ovan Lake, animals such as goats, leopard, brown bear, fox, jackal, wolf, wild boar, marten, caracal, eagle, cinereous vulture, kestrel, hawk, owl, partridge, cuckoo, woodpeckers, rollers, chough, and various kinds of sparrows, frog, turtle, and crabs live. Aquatic animals such as trout, carp, and fish ducks live in the lake as well.
The best time to get there is spring and summer. This area is usually full of tourists in these seasons as well. But if you do not have a problem with the cold weather, fall and winter are the perfect opportunities to see how Mother Nature plays with colors.
If you want to travel to this tourist attraction by car, you should start your journey from the Tehran-Qazvin highway and get yourself to the Minudar square. After reaching Raja'i Plains, you will have about three hours to get to a junction. One way goes to Alamut and the other way to Ovan Lake. After eight kilometers and passing through the green village of Zarabad, you will find the Ovan Lake.
