The tomb of Bayazid Bastami is one of the most beautiful architectural collections in Iran, located on the Shahrud road to Bastam.
There is not much information about Bayazid Bastami. Local people say that his father was Bastam's elder. Bayazid Bastami died in 261 and was buried at his Khanqah. Khanqah is the place of life, education, gatherings, and activities of the Dervishes and Sufis.
The tomb of Bayazid Bastami consists of a mosque, several graves, and buildings. This beautiful collection of buildings is located in Semnan Province, Bastam city. Most of the complex was built during the Ilkhanate period and afterward.
The tomb of Bayazid Bastami is devoid of any decor and has an iron window. On his grave is a marble that has carved the words of the great litany of Imam 'Ali b. Abi Talib (a). A little distance from this tomb, there is a Mazar like a tower, which is attributed to Imam Zadeh Muhammad, the son of Imam Ja'far Sadegh Ali (AS). Probably, he died before Bayazid and was buried in his current place. Nasir Khusraw, who traveled from this city and visited from Neyshabur to Damghan in 435, said that Torbat Sheikh Bayazid Bastami visited, but did not mention the tomb of Imamzadeh Mohammad.
The Bayazid mosque consists of two Shabestans (Shabestans are a part of a large mosque with a roof and pillars that lead to the courtyard of the mosque). The large Shabestan belongs to the masculine and the small Shabestan belongs to the women. The women's Shabestan remains from the Ilkhanas era.
Khanikof (Russian geographer and anthropologist) refers to an altar that dates back to 660, but now there is no trace of it.
There is a tomb in the south of the entrance porch, near the Shahrokhie school and in the eastern part of the complex, which is attributed to Muhammad II of Khwarazm, the last prince of the Ghurid.
