Tabriz Bazaar is the largest and most important covered bazaar in the world. This Bazaar is one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East.
The Tabriz market has been an important trade hub in this situation because it is located on the Silk Road. The construction date of the building is still unknown, but it is said that a large part of this bazaar dates back to the fifteenth century. Part of the Tabriz bazaar was destroyed by the earthquake in 1193. A group of professional architects restored this old bazaar in the late Zand and Qajar dynasties. Tabriz was the capital of Iran during the Safavid period (the sixteenth century), and the Tabriz bazaar was at its pinnacle and efflorescence.
This bazaar is made up of Timcheh (A set of several shops) and Caravanserais (Inns or public houses are in a great space for comfortable caravans). Each Timcheh is dedicated to a specific item. Amir Timcheh is the Gold Sale, and Kolahdoozan Timcheh is the center of selling traditional Azari woolen hats. Surely, the best place in this bazaar is Mozafariyeh Timcheh. It is one of the main centers of trade and export of carpets of Azerbaijan and Iran. This Timcheh is one of the most beautiful parts of the bazaar. Tabriz Bazaar is one of the largest roofed collections in the world.
Architectural features of this bazaar include a high roof, small and large white and colored windows on the edges and the middle of the roof, as well as the regular rows of stores that contract alongside each other. The main texture of the Tabriz Bazaar is composed of two North-South and East-West Rasteh (It is said that the main ways of the bazaar.). The ceilings of Rastehes were made with brick domes, which were appropriate to the cold weather in Tabriz. On top of these roofs, there are apertures where light can enter the bazaar. These apertures are also suitable for air conditioning in the bazaar. The intersection of the Rastehes goes to the three ways or intersection called Chahar Sogh. This bazaar is made up of two floors that each of which includes 26 stores. Most carpet sellers are on the ground floor.
