Tehran is the capital of Iran. It is situated on the foot of Alborz mountain range with a population of 14 million people. Tehran is a busy place, bustling metropolis, the largest and most populous city of Iran. It is one of the largest cities in West Asia and the 27th largest city in the world. You will see the magnificent view of Mount Damavand in every corner of the city and there are not many cities in the world like that.

Tehran is a huge city. It used to be smaller but it grew and grew and swallowed the surrounding areas. Tehran can be roughly divided into two different parts, north and south. The mountainous regions are found in the north and the desert areas in the south. These geographical conditions of the city result in different weather conditions in the north and south. The northern districts of Tehran are more well-off, modern, cosmopolitan and expensive, while the southern areas are less attractive but cheaper.

 

The administrative structure of Iran is concentrated in Tehran and the city is divided into 22 districts. There are two major towers in Tehran, Azadi Tower, which is one of the landmarks of the city and Milad Tower, which is one of the most important attractions of Tehran.

The lowest elevation of the city is 1050m while its highest elevation is 1800m and that’s why the city has different weather conditions. The north of the city is influenced by mountains and has moderate and humid weather. The rest of the city is warm and dry and in winter is cold. Tehran has the highest temperature of 43 degrees and the lowest of minus 15 degrees.

 


The History of Tehran

Tehran is a historic city, which dating back to thousands of years ago. At the time of the Zand dynasty, it was a village that was significant from a strategic point of view. In the reign of Karim Khan Zand (the founder of the Zand Dynasty) Tehran was the center of government for four years. In the era of Nasir al-Din Shah, Tehran became as a walled city due to walls and trenches that was built around the city. But, Tehran was become as the capital of Iran in the Qajar dynasty by the rule of Agha Mohammad Khan (the founder of the Qajar dynasty).
